DVTK new update – November 2018
Dear All,
We would like to inform you on our upcoming training event focused on both learning DICOM as well as hands-on training with DVT and DVT-based tooling. Of note is also that DVTk is actively being used as a basis for IHE validation tools (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) of the Radiation Oncology integration profiles. Also, a presentation on the dvtk tools was given at SIIM 2018 in Washington this year. And the 2018a definition files have been sold to a number of companies that thereby support this open source initiative. Curious? Take a look at this news update.
Upcoming training DICOM Fundamentals and DVTk applied
A two-day training is upcoming that combines both theoretical knowledge of DICOM with practice by applying the DVT based tools. On the first course day, the focus is on acquiring the necessary knowledge, whereby theory is illustrated with specific practical examples. The second day is devoted to workshops in which theory and practice are integrated with each other. You will learn to work with the DVTk tools. Experience has shown us that putting your theoretical knowledge into practice as soon as possible is the most effective way of obtaining a clear insight into purpose and application of DICOM.
The training ‘DICOM Fundamentals and DVTk applied’ is scheduled for the beginning of the new year (2019). Please contact us for more information.
Thank you for supporting DVTk
DVTk and its tools are used with definition files. A freely available definition file set can be downloaded that resembles the DICOM standard definitions of 2010. This may be enough for your testing purposes. However if you would like to use the latest definitions of the (2018) standard, as of this year latest definitions of the (2018a) standard are available for a small fee, to cover costs of creating these definitions as well as support maintenance of the dvtk tools. As of now a number of companies have acquired the definition files, for which we would like to express our thanks. If you would like to know a bit more about this 2018a definition file set, visit this page at dvtk.org. During spring of 2019 we plan to provide a similar offer for the 2019a definition files.
SIIM 2018 DVTk presentation
We were happy to be present at SIIM 2018 in Washington DC this year, where we were given the opportunity to present the DVTk tools and explain their application. The DICOM network analyzer especially was perceived as a very useful tool in helping find interoperability issues between two systems exchanging DICOM information.
A decade of IHE-RO testing
We're happy to announce that DVTk is being used as the basis for IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) test tooling for over a decade now. Radiation oncology system suppliers and users define integration profiles to improve interoperability of different systems involved in radiation oncology workflows. The DVTk based IHE-RO test tools help the IHE-RO system suppliers test their products interoperability against IHE integration profiles such as:
- [NTPL-S] Normal Treatment Planning-Simple illustrates flow of treatment planning data from CT to Dose Review for basic treatments
- [MMR-RO] Multimodality Registration for Radiation Oncology integrates PET and MRI data into the contouring and dose review process.
- [TRWF] RT Treatment Workflow integrates daily imaging with radiation therapy treatments using workflow
