I'm trying to test DICOM printing with DVT and problem is that
I can't open resulting .dcm files. Eg. in the results I see two .dcm files:

>Media file W:\work\janne\dicom\1I00102.dcm created, click to >open DCM file in viewer.
...
>
>Media file W:\work\janne\dicom\1I00103.dcm created, click to >open DCM file in viewer.

First one can't be opened at all and second one doesn't seem to contain image...

Hi Janne,

the problem you encounter is that you cannot open the .dcm files created by DVT in a DICOM viewer.

The reason behind this is that DVT(k) has a (default) setting that enables writing all received DICOM Messages to .dcm files. This is the case for C-STORE-RQ DICOM Messages, which will be stored as valid DICOM files, but also for other DICOM messages like C-FIND-RQ and N-NET-RSP, which will be stored as pseudo DICOM files. Those pseudo DICOM files are not specified in the DICOM standard and cannot be opened in a "normal" DICOM viewer.

The reason to have the option to save all DICOM Messages, is that they can be reused, e.g. the DICOM message you receive, you can send out again. The (normal and pseudo) DICOM files contain all attributes in the contained dataset that were also present in the dataset of the received DICOM Message. When you want to open any (valid or pseudo) DICOM file to view or edit the contained attributes, you can use the DVTk based DICOM Editor.

I hope that this make it more clear,
Marco
