Hello,
We use DICOM Network Sniffer and Analyzer as default tooling. On several new installed laptops we don't get DICOM Network Sniffer and Analyzer working. When starting I get an error saying: Error Please install the WinPcap3.0 or above from the application installation directory. Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. WinPcap 3.1 is installed by the way. I tried to remove WinPcap and install another (any other...) version from the WinPcap website and archive, but without any luck. WinPcap is properly installed, and so is the DICOM Network Sniffer and Analyzer, but the error keeps coming back. Is this a known problem? If so, is there a workaround or solution?

Hi Dvtk user,
Even i heard this issue many times with inatallation on new laptop. I want to analyze this issue on laptop itself b'coz i'm not able to reproduce this. I'm coming to Neitherlands next week. Can u provide me more details so i can contact u and analyze the issue? I tested the sniffer only for Win XP not for other OS e.g. Win 2003 server or Win 2K. Regards, Piyush

Hi Piyush,
Thank you for your reaction. The platform used is a Windows XP Service Pack 2. Besides that we have Internet Explorer 6 (6.0.2900.2180.spsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 (through WSUS) installed. Is there something I can try?

Hi Dvtk user,
I'm here in PMS Best. You can send your contact details to my DVTk e-mail(pbhageriya@dvtk.org) so we can analyze the issue further. Regards, Piyush

Hi Piush,
at the PHC academy I have noticed that the ECCN engineers have problems getting DSA to work. Also my PHC collegues working for NucMed cannot get DSA to work. So there might be an installed program or service conflicting with the sniffer/analyser. Maybe you get get information about differences in installed software between regular Zeppelin and NucMed installed laptop. For the ECCN it would be difficult as these guys have lots of dedicted sw. Regards, Peter.

I have a similar problem. I first loaded Wireshark software (WinCap4.0) on my laptop [Windows XP SP2] as I needed the network analyser. Then I loaded the DVTK network analyzer. When I try to launch this, I get the popup 'There is no network adapter (driver) detected on the machine. Please install the WinPcap3.0 or above from the application installation directory.' I then tried this installation from the application installation directory - but it aborted itself when it saw a newer version of the WinPcap.
I get the same error if Wireshark is running or not.

Hi.
I have had the same problem. My DVTk sniffer worked until I instaled Wireshark with WinPCap 4.0.0.1040. I have tried to reinstall but DVTk rejects to overwrite the newer WinPCap. And it did not work after reinstallation. Is there a way to get current DVTk sniffer working with WinPCap 4.x? Or are you working on an upgrate to solve this problem? Thanks for your beutiful tools Regards Aabenbro

Any expected ETA on this update?
Also is there any chance of getting the source to the Sniffer application? When I pulled down the CVS repository the code for the sniffer was not included. Thanks, Ramey

I had the same problem after a WireShark install. I had to use Windows add/remove programs to remove Wincap 4.0 and then re-install the DVTK sniffer analyzer. When it re-installed it re-installed the WinCap version (3.1) included with DVTK sniffer.
Both WireShark and DVTK Sniffer/Analyzer now work. Regards, Bill G.
